Choose the Right Decking for Boltless Shelving
Decking drops into or rests on the shelf beams to create the surface that supports stored items. It must match the shelf width, depth, beam profile, and support arrangement. If a shelving product says decking is not included, order the correct decking quantity for every level in the unit.
Particleboard Decking
Particleboard Decking provides a smooth, economical surface for cartons, totes, tools, and general dry indoor storage. It is easy to replace but should be protected from moisture and must be supported according to the shelf span and load.
Steel Decking
Steel Decking creates a durable all-steel shelf using formed planks. It works well where facilities prefer metal surfaces instead of wood-based panels. Wider shelves or certain beam arrangements may require center supports, so follow the requirements for the selected configuration.
Wire Decking
Wire Decking improves airflow, light penetration, and visibility through the shelf. The open grid may not support very small loose items without a container or liner, and capacity depends on the deck and supporting beam arrangement.
Decking Is Not the Shelving Frame

Decking for Starter and Add-On Bays
Starter and Add-On describe the shelving frame, not the deck. A Starter begins the row, and each compatible Add-On creates another connected bay. Unless decking is included, count the shelf levels in every Starter and Add-On bay and order one correctly sized deck for each level that needs a surface.
