Additional Metal Shelves
Additional metal shelves add another storage level inside a compatible steel shelving unit. Compare medium-duty, heavy-duty, and extra-heavy-duty shelves in available widths and depths. Shelf clips are included with the products shown in this collection.
An additional shelf is not an Add-On shelving unit: it does not include posts, panels, or a new bay. Match the shelf's manufacturer, series, width, depth, duty level, clip type, and finish to your existing unit before ordering.

Add Shelf Levels Without Replacing the Unit
An additional metal shelf makes better use of unused vertical space inside a compatible shelving bay. It can improve organization, reduce overstacking, and create dedicated levels for cartons, tools, parts, supplies, and other hand-loaded inventory.
Additional Shelf vs. Add-On Unit
These terms describe different products. An additional shelf is one horizontal shelf level with the required clips shown on the product page. It installs inside an existing compatible unit. An Add-On unit—also called an Adder—is a complete additional shelving bay that attaches to a compatible Starter unit and includes posts or other structural components. Order an additional shelf when you need another level; order an Add-On unit when you need another bay.
Compatibility Checklist
- Manufacturer and shelving series
- Shelf width and depth
- Medium-, heavy-, or extra-heavy-duty construction
- Post slot and shelf-clip style
- Finish or color
- Available vertical space and the unit's total load limits
A shelf with matching outside dimensions is not automatically compatible. Do not mix shelf types or clips based on size alone. If the unit has no readable label, send us clear photos of the posts, shelf edges, clips, overall dimensions, and any stamped part numbers before ordering.
Also confirm that adding another level will leave enough vertical clearance for the products being stored and will not exceed the shelving unit's total rated load.
